Sporting Khalsa 3 Walsall Wood 0

Mensah Kinch - just ridiculous, to be honest
Mensah Kinch – just ridiculous, to be honest

The returning James Pemberton and Mensah Kinch gave a threadbare Sporting Khalsa side a valuable win over Walsall Wood, their second over their neighbours in five days after the 2-0 victory in the JW Hunt Cup.

It also means Khalsa have won the last ten league games and move up into fourth position in the Midland Football League.

With six first teamers missing, Khalsa boss Ian Rowe was forced into some unusual selections, but Craig Bannister‘s goal on four minutes settled his side and further goals by Brad Lawley and Marvin Nisbett before half time effectively secured the result.

On 70 minutes, a failed floodlight saw the referee appear to abandon the match, prompting sprinting to the dressing rooms by Wood’s players which would make Usain Bolt proud, only for some amateur electrician activity to get the bulbs glowing again, meaning the visitors had to troop back onto the field to complete the match.
