More silverware for Khalsa ladies

After winning the Goals Black Country 5-aside tournament a couple of weeks ago the ladies took part in the Stanstock 7’s Annual Ladies tournament which takes place at Ludlow Town Football Club in Shropshire.

There were a number of good teams in the tournament including FAWPL opposition such as Liverpool Feds, Loughborough University and Leicester City Ladies to name a few.

The ladies topped their group on the first day winning every game, scoring 14 goals and conceding 3.

In day two there was one more group game which the ladies won convincingly and the top four teams from each division went into a knock out format with the losing team then going into the plate competition.

Despite a small squad the ladies powered through the knockout stages of the cup competition and into the final where they faced an very strong North East side Tynedale Ladies who were undefeated and hadn’t conceded a single goal over the weekend.

girls2The girls went one behind against Tynedale but worked hard and grabbed an equalised within minutes through Kidd.  The game went into extra time and the win should have been sealed there and then when Duggan’s deflected shot flew off Lewis and into the back of the net.  The referee in our view unfairly disallowed the goal after he adjudged it to have crossed the line and out for a goal kick earlier in the move.

The final was forced into penalties, which was nerve wracking but the girls kept their composure when taking the penalties and Lewis made two great saves to deny Tynedale.

It was a great weekend and really proud of the girls for making it all the way to the final and winning the tournament.
