Khalsa Women saw victory as they won their latest warm-up tournament ahead of the new season last weekend.
The short, fast paced twenty minute games meant all the teams had to start quickly and try and get their noses in front first.
After a positive group stage the ladies triumphed as group winners, meaning they played Stockingford AA, Rise Park and Rugby Town in the knockout stages.
After winning their games, finishing strongly in all, they faced a strong Leicester City Women’s Development squad and, despite a number of chances, they could not find the net.
As the game ended goalless Khalsa proved their nerve and managed to edge past the Leicester team by converting all their penalties.
In goal, Toni Parkes gave Khalsa Women the edge by saving two crucial spot kicks. This range of impressive victories made this Sporting Khalsa Women’s third tournament victory of the 2016-17 season.
A great day all round gave the team a boost ahead of the FA Women’s Premier League opener away at Loughborough this Sunday.
After a short break the first team then have three home games in a row against challenging opposition. Chester le Street Town Ladies visit for the first cup tie of the season, while Radcliffe Olympic and The New Saints visit in quick succession of the 11th and 14th of September respectively.
Khalsa Women’s Reserves also won their latest pre-season game against Stoke-on-Trent based team Abbey Hulton LFC, thrashing them 6-0, with six different scorers. A very positive performance gives the ladies yet more momentum and all important match fitness building up to the new season which kicks off on the September 4 at home to The New Saints LFC. With little over three weeks until the new season kicks off the reserves will be focusing on maintaining fitness levels in the upcoming pre-season games and training sessions.
