Sporting Khalsa 0 Halesowen Town 0 (friendly)

Sam Arnold – forced to scramble away an effort in the first half.

Khalsa’s preseason efforts continued with a stalemate against Evo-Stik South Premier Division Central outfit Halesowen Town.

Although this was an up tempo and energetic affair, there was no significant punch in the final third for either side with neither goalkeeper particularly tested.

Khalsa might have taken the lead as early as four minutes had Leon Miles not found himself with the ball tangled about his feet at close range at a corner.

On 20 minutes, a probing freekick by one of the several Halesowen trialists required a scrambled intervention by Sam Arnold in the Khalsa goal.

And just before the half-time interval Khalsa had a couple of opportunities, first Tes Robinson narrowly failing to connect to an inviting flick-on by Dave Meese and then Josh Thomas breaking down the left flank but dragging his shot just wide of the near post.

The second half was more disjointed and became increasingly so as the substitutions rolled on and off.

On 52 minutes, a free kick in a good position was fired narrowly over by one of Halesowen’s trialists in one of the rare openings in the early stages of the second half.

On 70 minutes a powerful shout for a penalty to Khalsa was waved away by the referee as Garfield Robinson was sent crashing to the ground in the box.

Almost immediately at the other end, Khalsa’s substitute new signing Dale Reaney produced a smart save to deny Jordan Goddard.

Halesowen stepped things up in the final stages and on 79 minutes there was a great opportunity for one of the trailists, but the finish failed to match the build-up.

In the dying moments, Yeltz fullback Enoch Ekongo put a great freekick into the box agonisingly out of the reach of a Halesowen trialist.
