Khalsa’s passage into the next round of the FA Vase – a tricky route via on the stronger sides in the competition at this stage – was secured thanks to goals by Dan Westwood, Dave Meese and Josh Thomas.
Although it was nowhere near as crazy as Saturday’s original match, it was neither as straightforward as it looked. Until the sending off of Sphinx captain Callum Woodward in the second half, it was a nip and tuck affair that might have gone either way.
Westwood put Khalsa ahead in the first half, turning home a probing and troublesome cross by Thomas, who was an enforced substitute after an injury to Mensah Kinch. Following the sending off, Sphinx’s resolve and drive died a death enabling Meese to grab his first of the season and then Thomas to round off an impressive performance.
The next round game at Stone Old Alleynians takes place a week on Saturday.
