Luke Shearer – a brace for the hotshot gave Khalsa the foundation to build on.

A brace for hotshot Luke Shearer provided the foundation as Ian Rowe’s men secured the double over Sphinx.

Shearer struck in the 13th and 60th minutes to put Khalsa two goals to the good, the first a neat back post finish from a Simeon Townsend knock down. Before this, Mensah Kinch and Fabrice Kasiama both had good opportunities, only to be denied by wasteful finishing Sphinx keeper Reece Blackmore respectively.

Townsend ought to have doubled Khalsa’s advantage on 36 minutes, his shot saved when through one-on-one with Blackmore.

Once Shearer grabbed his second, it appeared to be plain sailing for Khalsa when captain Tes Robinson added a third with a trademark header from a corner on 76 minutes.

On 80 minutes substitute Aaron Perrin grabbed his second in two games, slotting home a pass from fellow substitute Yussuf Ceesay.

But Khalsa were left to endure some late jitters as the visitors grabbed two goals back in quick succession. First Kieran McCalla headed home on 84 minutes and then less than 60 seconds later substitute Ryan Harkin fired into the bottom corner.

Sporting Khalsa: Tom Turner, Bekir Halil, Johnny Haynes, Tes Robinson (captain), Shawn Boothe, Dave Meese, Mike Perks (Matt Martin), Fabrice Kasiama, Simeon Townsend (Aaron Perrin), Luke Shearer (Yusifu Ceesay).
