Recap

Tes Robinson – put Khalsa ahead in the first half

Khalsa threw away a lead to suffer defeat on the 3g surface at Boldmere St Michaels thanks to a brace by the impressive Ryan Nesbitt.

The Mikes had a huge penalty shout waved away on nine minutes when Nesbitt went to ground, only for the referee to – perhaps surprisingly – wave play on. Boldmere captain Craig Milligan flashed a header wide from Nesbitt’s cross on 18 minutes and three minutes later at the other end Craig Bannister was unfortunate not to score, heading agonisingly wide from Carlo Franco‘s cross.

Khalsa took the lead on 33 minutes, Tes Robinson turning home Bannister’s cross.

The lead wouldn’t make it to the interval, however, Nesbitt grabbing his first after being given two bites of the cherry by the Khalsa defence. The half went from bad to worse just before the break when Franco had to leave the field with a serious looking injury.

Boldmere came out the more determined, Ryan Shaw turning and shooting from range to now avail. At the other end, a Bannister stinger from range was parried to safety by Warren Feeney in the Boldmere goal.

The visitors almost got the lead back on the hour, Bannister crossing again for Robinson who was unable to repeat his first half exploits. Seconds later, Khalsa would be punished when some poor defending opened another chance for Nesbitt who didn’t need asking twice to put his side ahead.

Great defending by Cameron Gayle denied Mykel Beckley on 68 minutes as Khalsa’s efforts to get back in it stepped up a gear. With five minutes left Nathan Waite‘s cross was narrowly missed by Bannister and Josh Thomas.

Boldmere’s Shaw almost wrapped it up on 88 minutes before Khalsa had two late chances, first Marvin Nisbett lashing a chance wide on 90 minutes and then deep into stoppage time Feeney saving the day for the Mikes with a great save from Bannister.
