Khalsa came from behind to advance into the third round of the FA Vase against a strong Quorn side.
Late goals from James McGrady, Sean Williams and Leon Miles gave the scoreline a comfortable look, but for long stretches of the second half it looked like Khalsa were never going to get back into the game after going behind before the break.
Quorn had gone ahead on 38 minutes, a disaster for Khalsa keeper Sam Arnold as a long range shot from Joe Brothwell went underneath him on the skiddy surface.
But before that it had been almost all Khalsa as they peppered the Quorn goal without making the breakthrough.
In one five minute spell, Khalsa might have scored four times. Liam Armstrong’s shot was charged down by Deon Meikle and from the resulting corner Tes Robinson had the opportunity to convert at the near post but the ball flashed across the goalmouth. Seconds later McGrady fired a shot just wide of the near post and then an effort by Jay Holdcroft was charged down, sparking some half-hearted appeals for handball.
On 22 minutes Gaz Singh pulled a shot wide from the edge of the area with Khalsa looking at risk of regretting their wastefulness.
Quorn almost took the lead on 33 minutes, Steve Hart setting up Rackeem Reid who in a one-on-one with Arnold directed the ball inches past the post.
The goal did come five minutes later meaning the visitors went into at the break with the lead. McGrady almost immediately equalised after the restart, rattling the crossbar after being put through.
At the other end, Hart tried his luck from 40 yards after spotting Arnold off his line, his effort landing on the roof of the net.
The game settled into a scrappy battle in the middle of the park until the arrival of Khalsa substitutes Kane Lewis and Josh McKenzie.
A good save from Adam Binks in the Quorn goal denied Singh after being set up well by McKenzie on 77 minutes. But a minute later the equaliser finally came, Armstrong’s cross was headed by McGrady off an unfortunate defender and looped over the keeper and in.
Five minutes later and Binks dropped a cross at the feet of Lewis but the substitute was unable to react quickly enough and his effort bounced harmlessly off the post.
But on 80 minutes Khalsa were ahead, Sean Williams firing a wicked, dipping freekick into the net to spark celebrations.
With four minutes to go, the scoring was complete when substitute Alex Perry crossed and Miles stooped to head home, make it 3-1 and put Khalsa into Monday’s third round draw.
