Craig Bannister notched his 25th goal of the season as Sporting Khalsa chalked up their eighth successive victory against Lye Town in a closely contested clash.
The win provided a measure of revenge for Khalsa, their last defeat inflicted by Lye at the start of September with a similar scoreline on a similarly damp occasion.
The dismissal of Dreniz Bala for foul and abusive language on the hour didn’t prove too much of a hinderance for Lye, who continued to put pressure on Khalsa throughout.
Although it was Bannister whose strike won the match for the home side, the intervention of debutant goalkeeper Charlie Price (a former Lye player) was vital. First he stopped a James Spray overhead kick just before half time with the match deadlocked and then with ten minutes to go he made a fine save from the same player as the visitors chased an equaliser.
