Lee Wherton – grabbed the decisive goal.

Khalsa secured passage into the final of the JW Hunt Cup and the opportunity to finish the season on a high with a thrilling victory over rivals Alvechurch at the neutral venue of Castlecroft.

It was Khalsa who took the lead on three minutes through Kristian Green who headed home a Lee Wherton cross. Four minutes later Khalsa’s James Pemberton pulled off two good saves minutes apart to deny Jordan Nadat.

There was controversy on 17 minutes when Pemberton handled outside the box while seeking to deny Nadat but received just a yellow card. On 31 minutes Alvechurch were back in the game, Nadat being floored by Tes Robinson in the box and Danny Ashton stepping up to smash home the resulting spot-kick.

Khalsa took the lead on 64 minutes, albeit with a huge slice of luck, Wherton latching onto a long pass and hitting a deflected shot which flew into the net giving the keeper no chance.

Six minutes later Mensah Kinch almost killed the game, Alvechurch defenders somehow blocking the ball at the far post after great work by Dave Meese and Marvin Nisbett.

The win means Khalsa will face Wolves Sporting Community in the final at Molineux despite a 3-0 defeat in their semi-final after Lichfield City were kicked out of the competition for fielding an illegible player.

Sporting Khalsa: James Pemberton, Carlo Franco, Kristian Green (Tim Jackson), Joe Rogers, Tes Robinson, Dave Meese, Brad Lawley (Mike Perks), Lee Wherton (captain), Mensah Kinch, Marvin Nisbett, Craig Bannister (Simeon Townsend).
