Recap

Craig Bannister – chance late on against his former side.

A goal just before half-time by powerhouse centre-forward Luke Benbow secured the win for Rushall in the semi final of the Walsall Senior Cup in a tense and closely fought encounter.

The game didn’t start well for either side with neither team able to keep the ball on the dry Dales Lane pitch. As the game progressed, Khalsa gradually got into things, Joe Rogers found himself in the unlikely position to shoot inside the box, only to blaze over the bar.

Rushall then had the next best chance when the Pic’s left-back did well getting up the wing before putting in a cross that somehow rebounded off Tes Robinson to Benbow who put the ball narrowly over the bar.

Benbow wasn’t finished there though and he made up for that by putting Rushall ahead just before the break on the counter attack when he collected a pass and fired home past James Pemberton.

The second-half got increasingly heated as both sides battled for the ball in ever more aggressive fashion. The last real chance of the game fell to Sporting Khalsa as a cheap free-kick was given away, was nodded down by Dave Meese and fell to Craig Bannister whose shot was well saved by Kieran Preston.

Sporting Khalsa: James Pemberton, Carlo Franco, Tim Jackson, Tes Robinson (captain), Joe Rogers, Matt Martin, Dave Meese, Brad Lawley, Lee Wherton, Marvin Nisbett (Mikey Nelson), Craig Bannister (Chad Birch). Subs not used: Mihai Gherasim, Mike Perks, Nicky Campbell.
