Injury-ravaged Sporting Khalsa crashed out of the Walsall Senior Cup to neighbours and runaway Midland Football League Division One outfit Walsall Wood thanks to a late header from Tony Clarke.
And on 33 minutes the Khalsa lead was almost doubled, Carlo Franco rattling the crossbar after great work on the break involving Beckley.
The second half started with controversy, Wood having a huge penalty shout waved away when Clarke went down under the weight of a Shawn Boothe challenge. Three minutes later, Beckley hit the bar for a second time for Khalsa on the break.
Wood then equalised on 56 minutes, the lethal Lei Brown heading home to swing the momentum back in favour of the visitors. Kyle Brady had the opportunity to restore the lead on 75 minutes when put clear through only for the Wood keeper to pull off a great save.
With a retired goalkeeper and two injured outfield players on the subs bench, there was a sense that if Khalsa didn’t get a breakthrough, their hopes were fading.
Seconds later the feeling that this wasn’t to be Khalsa’s night began to sink in as Craig Bannister hit the crossbar direct from a corner. And sure enough, on 86 minutes Clarke powered a header past Sam Arnold to secure the win for the visitors.
