A hat-trick by Rikardo Reid helped Khalsa safely through to the next round of the JW Hunt Cup against a stubborn Wolverhampton United.
Liam Holt put Khalsa ahead on 12 minutes, an absolute peach of a goal from fully 40 yards past the despairing grasp of Craig Pain in the Wolves goal.
Pain was the villain of the piece just before the break as Khalsa doubled their lead, allowing a simple Reid effort to squirm past him and into the back of the net. Just after the restart, Ben Wilkins came close to getting one back for the visitors, heading narrowly over Sam Arnold‘s crossbar.
And the game was effectively killed off on 57 minutes, Mykel Beckley was brought down in the box and got up to slam home the penalty and make it 3-0.
Wolves pulled one back ten minutes later, Jak Corns hitting a brilliant effort from long range after Arnold had raced out to half clear a through ball.
But from there it was the Reid show – first on 71 minutes he hit a swerving effort from 25 yards to make it 4-1 and then ten minutes later lashed home his hat-trick.
To compound the visitors’ misery, substitute Kyle Brady grabbed a goal from a tight angle with three minutes to play.
